Equal tees 1.4571 / 316Ti
What are equal tees?
Equal tees are pipe fittings with three openings of the same diameter that form a T-shaped junction. In piping systems they are most commonly supplied as butt-weld welding fittings, used to branch flow, merge lines or create run/branch connections where the branch size equals the run size.
Material: stainless steel 1.4571 (316Ti)
These equal tees are made from stainless steel 1.4571, also known by its common grade designation 316Ti (AISI 316Ti, DIN X6CrNiMoTi17-12-2; Polish PN H17N13M2T / H18N10MT). 316Ti is an austenitic, titanium‑stabilised stainless steel with good resistance to corrosion (including many acidic and chloride-containing environments) and improved performance at elevated temperatures compared with unstabilised 316. In everyday language you will hear it called acid-resistant steel or simply stainless steel 316Ti.
Typical uses and applications
Equal tees in 1.4571 / 316Ti are chosen where corrosion resistance and stability of welded joints at higher temperatures are important. Common applications include:
- Chemical and petrochemical plants – for corrosive process lines and heat‑exposed piping.
- Pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing – where cleanliness and corrosion resistance are required.
- Food and beverage processing – in areas where elevated temperatures or specific chemical cleaning agents are used (check specific food-grade requirements for each application).
- Marine and offshore installations – for seawater-exposed systems and structural piping where pitting resistance is needed.
- Power generation and heating systems – for steam and high‑temperature circuits.
- Automotive, construction and general fabrication – small workshop jobs through to industrial installations requiring durable, corrosion‑resistant fittings.
Who buys these fittings?
Typical buyers are mechanical and process engineers, pipework fabricators, maintenance teams, procurement officers for industry sectors listed above, and advanced DIY or garage fabrication projects where stainless corrosion resistance and weldability are required.
Fabrication and welding notes
316Ti is designed to limit chromium carbide precipitation during heating, so it is well suited to welding. Practical points:
- Welding: 316Ti welds similarly to 316; preheating is generally not necessary and the titanium stabilisation reduces the need for post‑weld heat treatment to avoid intergranular corrosion in most service conditions.
- Grinding and finishing: Standard stainless steel practices apply — use dedicated tools to avoid cross‑contamination with plain carbon steel.
- Inspection: For critical or highly corrosive services, follow project standards and consult material specifications — in some cases specific heat treatments or controls may still be required.
Standards and designations
This material is commonly referenced as:
- EN / European: 1.4571 (X6CrNiMoTi17-12-2)
- US / AISI: 316Ti
- Polish / local: PN H17N13M2T / H18N10MT
Why choose 316Ti equal tees?
Choose equal tees 1.4571 / 316Ti when you need the combination of corrosion resistance, good high‑temperature behaviour and reliable welded joints. They are a practical choice where standard 316 may be at risk of sensitisation during fabrication or service at elevated temperatures.
Ordering and availability
We supply butt‑weld equal tees in a range of standard pipe sizes and wall thicknesses to EN/ASME dimensions. If you need guidance on size, pressure rating or surface finish for a specific process or industry standard, contact our technical sales team with your operating media, temperature and pressure details so we can recommend the correct fitting.
