Seamless stainless steel tubes in steel Alloy 800H
What are Alloy 800H seamless tubes?
Alloy 800H tubes are seamless stainless/heat‑resistant steel tubes made from a nickel‑iron‑chromium alloy specifically engineered for elevated‑temperature service. They combine the corrosion resistance of stainless steels with improved high‑temperature strength (creep resistance) thanks to controlled carbon plus small additions of aluminium and titanium. Seamless construction (no welded seam) makes these tubes especially suitable for pressure, high‑temperature and cyclic thermal applications.
Material designation and chemical composition
Alloy names and standards you may see: Alloy 800H (often listed as UNS N08810 in US standards and EN 1.4958 in European practice). Other references used in industry include 1.4876 / X10NiCrAlTi32‑20 depending on supplier and historical naming.
Chemical composition (typical ranges for Alloy 800H):
- Nickel (Ni): 30.0–35.0%
- Chromium (Cr): 19.0–23.0%
- Iron (Fe): balance (around 39.5% min)
- Carbon (C): 0.05–0.10% (higher carbon than 800 for improved strength at temperature)
- Aluminium (Al): 0.15–0.60%
- Titanium (Ti): 0.15–0.60%
- Minor elements: Mn, Cu, S, P within low controlled limits
Key properties
- Heat resistance: designed for prolonged service at elevated temperatures; offers good oxidation and carburisation resistance compared with many stainless steels.
- High‑temperature strength and creep resistance: the higher carbon content and stabilising elements (Al, Ti) provide improved mechanical properties at temperature compared with standard Alloy 800.
- Corrosion resistance: good resistance to many corrosive atmospheres and industrial environments, including some chloride‑containing and sulphur‑bearing services; as with all alloys, suitability depends on the specific environment and temperature.
- Seamless construction: better reliability in pressure and cyclic‑thermal applications than welded tube in many cases.
- Fabricability: can be formed and welded using appropriate procedures and filler metals; follow supplier recommendations for pre‑/post‑weld treatment when required.
Note: Service temperature limits depend on application and environment. Alloy 800H is commonly used in continuous elevated temperature service and is often selected for applications up to several hundred degrees Celsius; consult technical datasheets and engineering guidance for exact allowable temperatures and long‑term creep data.
Typical applications and industries
Seamless Alloy 800H tubes are used where a combination of corrosion resistance and high‑temperature mechanical strength is required. Typical applications include:
- Chemical and petrochemical plants — heat exchangers, process piping, reactors and pipework exposed to hot corrosive media.
- Power generation and boilers — superheater/reheater tubing, steam lines and components operating at elevated temperatures.
- Oil & gas and offshore — high‑temperature process tubing and equipment that must resist corrosion and thermal cycling.
- Metallurgy and heat‑treating furnaces — furnace tubes, radiant tubes and components exposed to oxidising and carburising atmospheres.
- Specialist industrial equipment and prototypes — laboratory apparatus, pilot plant heat exchangers, and bespoke engineering solutions.
- Automotive and transport (specialist parts) — high‑temperature engine or exhaust components in niche applications.
From small workshop or prototype builds to heavy industrial and offshore projects, Alloy 800H seamless tubes are chosen where reliability at elevated temperature and resistance to aggressive media are important.
Why choose seamless Alloy 800H tubes?
- Reliability under pressure: seamless tubes minimise defects associated with seams and are preferred for pressure‑critical applications.
- High‑temperature performance: maintained mechanical strength and creep resistance make alloy 800H suitable for prolonged hot service.
- Versatility: compatible with many joining and fabrication techniques when correct procedures are used.
- Industry acceptance: widely specified in petrochemical, power and process industries where long service life at temperature is required.
Supply options, testing and ordering
We supply Alloy 800H as seamless tubes in a range of outside diameters, wall thicknesses and lengths. Common customer options include customised lengths, specific surface finishes and machined ends. Tubes can be supplied with traceable documentation such as mill test certificates and inspection reports (please request relevant certificates such as EN 10204 3.1 where required).
When ordering, please provide:
- Required tube designation (Alloy 800H / UNS N08810 / EN 1.4958)
- Outside diameter, wall thickness and length
- Application or service temperature (to confirm suitability)
- Any required certifications, testing or NDT
