Seamless stainless tubes and hollow bars in superduplex grade
What are seamless stainless tubes and hollow bars in superduplex grade?
Seamless stainless tubes and hollow bars in superduplex grade are tubular products and tubular bar sections manufactured from super duplex stainless steel. "Seamless" means the tube is made without a longitudinal weld, giving uniform strength and improved pressure performance. Hollow bars are precision-made tubular bars with thicker walls and controlled dimensions, often used as a machinable blank for finished components.
Material and common designations
The material used is super duplex stainless steel, a two-phase alloy that combines austenitic and ferritic microstructures to deliver both high corrosion resistance and high mechanical strength. The grade is commonly referenced as S32750 (UNS S32750) and is frequently marketed under the trade name 2507. In Europe the EN number 1.4410 is often used. Suppliers may stock seamless tubes and hollow bars to recognised standards for stainless products depending on form and application.
Key properties
- High corrosion resistance – excellent resistance to chloride-induced pitting and crevice corrosion, and good resistance to seawater and many process acids.
- High mechanical strength – significantly higher yield and tensile strength than common austenitic grades (for example 304/316 families), allowing thinner-walled designs for the same load.
- Good resistance to stress corrosion cracking in chloride environments compared with many austenitic grades.
- Two-phase microstructure (ferrite + austenite) that gives a balance of toughness and strength; requires controlled heat treatment and fabrication practice to retain properties.
Corrosion performance — what to expect
Superduplex (S32750 / 2507) offers outstanding resistance to localised corrosion (pitting and crevice) in chloride-containing environments and performs well in seawater and many chemical process fluids. It is chosen where a combination of corrosion resistance and high strength is required — for example in seawater systems, chemical processing and oil & gas applications.
Typical applications and industries
Seamless tubes and hollow bars in superduplex grade are used across industries where durability and performance are critical. Typical uses include:
- Chemical and petrochemical plants — process piping, heat exchangers, tanks and fittings
- Oil & gas and offshore — risers, seawater cooling systems, subsea components and topside piping
- Desalination and seawater handling — intake/outlet lines, valves and piping exposed to brackish or sea water
- Power and energy — condensers, turbine cooling circuits and other high-pressure systems
- Pulp and paper, and general process industries — rollers, mechanical parts and pressure lines
- Precision engineering and fabrication — machined components made from hollow bars where a strong, corrosion-resistant parent material is needed
- Smaller-scale and specialist uses — bespoke engineering, high-performance repairs and applications in harsh environments where stainless 316 would not be sufficient
Who should choose these products?
These products are aimed at engineers, procurement teams, fabricators, maintenance departments and specialist manufacturers working in demanding environments. Choose superduplex seamless tubes or hollow bars when you need a material that offers both superior corrosion resistance and significantly greater mechanical strength than standard austenitic stainless steels.
Practical considerations for purchase and fabrication
- Seamless vs welded: seamless tubes give better mechanical integrity and are preferred for high pressure or cyclic loading. Welded tubes are used where cost or manufacturing limits apply.
- Fabrication: superduplex steels are weldable, but welding requires appropriate filler metals, controlled heat input and qualified procedures to preserve corrosion resistance and strength. Always consult material and welding guides or your supplier.
- Machining: hollow bars are supplied with precise bore and wall dimensions to reduce machining time; superduplex is tougher to machine than common grades and benefits from correct tooling and speeds.
- Standards and traceability: products are supplied to recognised stainless steel standards and with material certification on request — check with the supplier for the specific certificates required for your project.
Need help selecting the right product?
If you are unsure which tube or hollow bar grade, size or finish is best for your application, contact our technical team. Provide details about the operating environment (temperatures, fluids, chloride content), pressures and mechanical loads and we can recommend the most suitable superduplex seamless tube or hollow bar for your project.
